Thanks to dedicated Locations Geek yavannauk and the post wot she made last year after episode 313 The Coming of Arthur was broadcast, we know exactly where Merlin placed the sword in the stone in safekeeping for Arthur. Of course he then magicked it so that we lesser mortals cannot see it, but at least we can visit the location.

We had our first Magical Merlin Locations Tour on Tuesday. Joining me were our own archaeologist_d, Bess from the merloc website, and various camp followers. Our destination was the undercroft at Neath Abbey, used in filming two episodes of Merlin - and not generally open to the public. Chepstow Castle, perched on a cliff over the River Wye near where it joins the Severn, was used to film one scene in episode 312 The Coming of Arthur (part one). So I'm sure we all remember the awesome promotional shots released in conjunction with the finale episodes of season three... Arthur and his sizzlingly hot knights, along with Merlin - and even Gaius! Richard almost never gets to do locations work (though I don't suppose he minds very much).
